Confrérie des Echevins
de Bouzy
Founded in 1980, the Brotherhood of Aldermen brings together many of the winemakers of Bouzy. Its mission is to "defend and illustrate Bouzy wines."
The Aldermen, whose origin dates back to the Carolingian period, were first of all people involved in the same profession in the same city and who used to gather to defend their interests and organise the sale or exchange of what they had produced.
Over the centuries, as a result of political developments whereby cities freed themselves from the guardianship of the Lord or the Bishop, Aldermen became key actors in the economic life of their city.
Today, the Aldermen continue to welcome people from across France and around the world and introduce them to their traditions.
