Essoyes
Essoyes is a small village in the Côte des Bar some 50 km south of Troyes, nestled beside the Ource (a tributary of the Seine), which Renoir dearly loved.
The Côte des Bar vineyards extend from Bar-sur-Seine to Bar-sur-Aube and are classified AOC Champagne.
The vineyards of Essoyes are composed of noble varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and account for an area of 500 hectares.
The winemakers have managed, with great tenacity, to create a successful winegrowing area despite the terrible phylloxera period and the difficulty in acquiring "the Champagne appellation" which make for the wealth and pride of a tradition passed down from father to son.
