The lakes of the Forêt d'Orient
Three lakes nestle in the Orient Forest Regional Natural Park (Aube).
Lake Amance, with a surface area 500 hectares, is the smallest of the three. Along with Lake Temple, it forms the Aube dam reservoir.
Lake Orient is the oldest (commissioned in 1966) and the largest (2,300 hectares) of the three great lakes of Aube. Its purpose is to regulate the flow of the Seine.
With the two previous lakes, Lake Temple forms the heart of the Regional Nature Park. It is linked to Lake Amance by a canal.
In addition to their regulatory role, these three lakes are extremely attractive to bird life (in particular Lake Temple, which stands next to an eponymous forest), and, as a result, to birdwatchers too.
