The enemies of my enemies are my friends:
Attract and protect ancillary species: birds, mammals, amphibians, insects and larvae that contribute to the eradication of insect pests:
- suitable habitats (pile of stones, old tree stump, etc.),
- wild hedgerows of local species to shelter local predatory wildlife,
- nesting boxes for insectivorous birds,
- flowerpots filled with straw for earwigs in orchards,
- pond for frogs,
- pile of wood for hedgehogs,
- protect pollinators.
Use barriers or traps rather than poisons:
- wood ash, crushed eggshells against slugs,
- foliage left on the ground to trap larvae,
- auxiliary plants that repel pests: rosemary, nasturtium, absinthe.
Fortify plants with herbal preparations (nettle, comfrey, etc.).
