Weeds?
Do not leave bare soil:
- mulches (bark, plant fibres, leaves, crushed straw, etc.) inhibits the growth of weeds and prevents soil compaction and drying,
- cover crops at the foot of hedges, trees and roses, crowd out weeds while providing a non-invasive decor.
Manually uproot weeds before they become too invasive.
Use boiling water on paving and gravel.
Lawns:
- dethatch, anti-moss products are useless because they do not tackle the causes, and sometimes even exacerbate them (iron sulphate),
- mowing longer, 5 or 6 cm in height, keeps the grass in good condition above the rosettes of the large invasive plants – plantains, dandelion – and keeps the flowers – daisies, violets, speedwell – which are pretty and favourable to insects.
Vegetable patches:
- plant in rows, not on the fly,
- do not use cutting tools (spade, garden tractor) in order not to split the roots and promote the dispersion of invasive plants (couch grass, nettles, bindweed, etc.), use a toothed spade or a fork.
