Historical parks & gardens
Avenues of centuries-old trees, squares of lawn bordered by boxwood, beds of delicate roses, moats and ponds…the manors, castles and abbeys of the region are well worth a visit, particularly the grounds.
Medieval, Renaissance or classical style gardens, formal or landscaped grounds surround many of our beautiful historic homes.
Orchards, vegetable gardens, herbs and flowers ensured that mediaeval religious gardens were a delight to behold. At the heart of the abbey, the monks' garden was a place of meditation. The Revolution changed the way they were composed out of all recognition, evolving into pleasure gardens of classical composition.
From the grounds of Château de la Motte-Tilly to the Renaissance beds at the Grand Jardin de Joinville, from the Garden Mouzon Abbey to the grounds surrounding the vestiges of the former Abbey of Trois-Fontaines, discover the botanical and landscape treasures of these sites steeped in history.
