Champagne
Among the famous men and women of the region, some of them have played a key role in the history of Champagne-Ardenne and its famous wine.
Examples include Dom Pérignon, a Benedictine monk of the Abbey of Hautvillers who, according to legend, is the inventor of the technique to produce foam and hence of champagne itself. Some women, mostly widows, also made a name for themselves in the region after the death of their husbands.
