The Franco-Prussian War of 1870
1870: Champagne becomes a battlefield once again. France and Prussia are at war.
On 1 September 1870, some 200 infantry troops resist the onslaught of the 1st Bavarian Corps. The House of the Last Cartridge in Bazeilles recounts the event. The following day, Napoleon III surrendered at Sedan. Champagne was occupied for three years.
