1939-1945: the Second World War 
The campaign of May-June 1940 was played out largely in the Ardennes, at Sedan and on the River Aisne. The conflict caused thousands of deaths and untold destruction.
In 1944, Champagne was liberated. On 7 May 1945, the German surrender was signed at Reims. The Museum of the Surrender keeps this memory alive.
Since 2008, at Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises, the de Gaulle Memorial, with the latest museum equipment and design, enables visitors to learn more about the personality of the most famous Frenchman of the 20th century.
