Troyes
A city of art and the historic capital of Champagne, Troyes is famous today for its clothing industry and its numerous factory shops.
You have to visit the "champagne cork" (city centre built in this shape) with its pedestrian area and its beautiful and remarkably well restored sixteenth century half-timbered houses: The Maison du Boulanger, the Silversmith's Turret, the many churches embellished with outstanding stained-glass windows, in particular in Saint Madeleine's church which also boasts a stone carved rood screen, one of the most beautiful in France, and in Saint Urban's Basilica, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture.
