Circuit “Walk around the springs”. Rigny-Le-Ferron
14 Km round Rigny-le-Ferron. Places of interest: The Cerilly Castle.
In 1854, Baron Haussmann made the Paris Council vote on a new project to supply drinking water to the capital. Its objective was to capture the groundwater located more than 100 km from Paris (regions of Provins, Sens, Fontainebleau, Dreux). The engineer Eugene Belgrand was chosen for conducting the work. In 1876, spring water collected in the region of Sens arrived in Monsouris tank, in 72 hours through the aqueduct of the Vanne. The farthest sources supplying the aqueduct of the Vanne are located in the forest of Othe: La bouillarde, Armentieres and Cerilly. They are called "high" because they have the particularity to reach Paris only by gravity, unlike sources called "low" that need waterworks. This tour takes you to the place of the catchment of that source.
