Marc-Antoine Charpentier wrote many works of great variety on the subject of the Nativity. The conception itself of the Christmas Midnight Mass for 4 voices, flutes and violins for Christmas, written in 1694, is the basis of its originality. Charpentier revives a practice of the past, more so in use in the 17th century, that of "Mass-parody," thereby making a remarkable synthesis of the secular and liturgical, folk art and scholarly composition, all in freshness and musical simplicity, consistent with this time of celebration, conducive to improvisation on the organ.
The organ classes, choral conducting and the Conservatory Choir will show you a top of the line Christmas Concert.
