The Chemin-Vert garden city is the most important of all the thirteen garden cities created in Reims between the two wars. The Chemin-Vert garden city is the most important of all the thirteen garden cities created in Reims between the two wars. It is one of the first fruits of this type of urban planning design in France. In 1922, 600 small houses intended to accommodate working class families were built under the control of the architect Jean-Marcel Auburtin.
At a time when social security did not yet exist, the city already included not only two small shopping centres but also a number of social facilities, including a children's day-care centre and a library.
The decoration of the Saint-Nicaise Church, in part Art Deco, is the work of several major artists of the period (Maurice Denis, René Lalique, Jacques Simon, etc.). Visit by appointment only (06 72 66 60 72, Mrs Guillart).
Bus: line 3 direction "Moulin de la Housse", stop "Alouettes".
