The “Borne de Terre Sacrée” was designed by the sculptor Gaston Deblaize. In 1927, this veteran of the 356th Infantry Regiment
wanted to carry
on the memory of fallen soldiers in a tangible way.
Seven waymarks were created by the artist, each one containing soil from the battlefields of World War I. The waymark in Meures was
on 31 July 1932; the village is the final resting place of Gaston Deblaize since 1935.
